Coach Tyler Torres

Head Coach - Pueblo West Men’s Lacrosse- Cyclones

Q: When was the first time you realized you loved lacrosse?

A: I first found lacrosse back in 2007 when the Pueblo High School Program first began and my dad was on the original staff and brought me along to all of the practices and workouts. Another coach had given me a stick and ever since then I fell in love with the game and began learning and playing as much as I could.

Q: When or how did you decide that coaching was in the table for you or that it was something you wanted to do?

A: My first year coaching was in 2014. I knew then it was something I would want to keep doing for a long time. I love the team environment and challenges that teams must face on their path to their goals. And most importantly, I enjoy helping student athletes improve themselves on a daily basis and watch them grow as people.

Q: What are 2 things you hope to accomplish with this group of young people?

A: Get the most out of every individual on the team with a common goal in mind— make a them a "TEAM." And two, be the first team in program history to make the playoffs.

Q: What do you think is the most important thing an athlete can do to grow as a player and as a person?

A: Be coachable, be approachable, and be willing to put in the required work at your craft for the intended goal.

Q: Who has been your favorite or most inspirational coach or athlete?

A: One of my former basketball coaches from high school. His passion for the game and preparation for everything from games to practices was admirable, and most importantly, he set a standard and held everyone equally accountable.

Q: What are 3 words you would use to describe yourself? What 3 words do you think your players would use to describe you?

A: Me: laid back, calculated, understanding.

Team: laid back, approachable, helpful.

Q: What qualities or skills do you hope to have (or grow) five years from now?

A: I want to be a better motivator, have more coaching creativity, and better leadership skills.

Q: What advice would you give yourself as a high schooler?

Slow down, don't over complicate things.

Q: What song are you walking out to?

Young Forever- Jay-Z
